CU Link is a hybrid smart card containing two chips. One is the high-security MULTOS (MULTi-application Operating System) chip, which is the contact chip; and the other one is known as the Mifare chip, which has the contactless capacities. While issued, personal information including University ID, college and studying programme (for student) or department (for staff) will be stored inside the card.
MULTOS, which is the same technology selected by the HKSAR Government in the Smart ID Card project, is a highly secure, multi-application platform for smart cards. CUHK is the first institution in Hong Kong to make use of and develop its own MULTOS application, on a single microprocessor chip.
CU Link not only brings about increased efficiency to the University, but also further established its leading position in the application and development of state-of-the-art technology.
