For applicants seeking admissions on the strength of qualifications other than Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education / Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination results (Notes)

I.
Applicants shall be eligible to apply for admission if they:

1)
have obtained in one sitting of the GCE Advanced Level Examination pass grades in no less than three Advanced Level subjects (Applicants with pass grades in 2 GCE Advanced Level and 2 Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects may also apply)*; OR
2)
have acquired an International Baccalaureate Diploma (For preferred subject requirements of the programmes, please click here)*; OR
3)
possess a recognised non-local qualification which qualifies them for admission to a university in the country/region where such qualification is originated (e.g. high school diploma plus SAT in USA, UEC/ STPM in Malaysia, ATAR in Australia, OSSD in Canada, etc.); OR
4)
have successfully completed at least one year of undergraduate study at a recognised university; OR
5)
have successfully completed a course of study leading to the qualification of associate degree / higher diploma**; OR
6)
are mature persons aged 23 or over on 1st September in the year when admission is sought, provided they are able to show either by publication or by other acceptable evidence that they have achieved sufficient competence in their chosen field of study to justify admission; or have shown exceptional ability in appropriate academic or professional fields; AND
7)
have other exceptional achievements which merit admission

For candidates who have completed only GCE-AS or the first year of IB Diploma studies with outstanding results, they may be considered for admission under special circumstances on individual merits case-by-case.

Applicants seeking admission on the strength of associate degree / higher diploma qualifications awarded by local institutions may apply for 1st and / or 2nd year and / or senior year admission. Please refer to the “Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme for Sub-degree Holders” for further information.

 

II. General Language Requirements
Applicants shall have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in the English and the Chinese languages.
Applicants seeking admission to undergraduate programmes on the strength of non-local qualifications may satisfy the Chinese and English language requirements through attaining the minimum required scores in public examinations as recognised by the University from time to time. Below are minimum required scores or grades for some of the more common acceptable examinations.

In addition to the General Language Requirements, individual programmes may have additional or higher language requirements.

Other evidence of the Chinese and English language proficiency may be considered on individual basis. Individual cases will be considered on their own merits by the programmes concerned. Applicants may be required to attend interviews or tests to further demonstrate their language proficiency.

Waivers of the Chinese language admission requirement may be granted at the discretion of the Faculty Deans concerned if the non-JUPAS applicants concerned should have pursued a curriculum leading to a recognised non-local qualification at secondary or above level prior to admission.

The language proficiency requirements are subject to ongoing review. The University reserves the right to amend the requirements from time to time.


Notes:
(1)
Students admitted on GCE A-level, IB or equivalent qualifications (e.g. STPM) will normally be required to complete 99 units of courses (normative period of study is 3 years) in order to graduate. Students admitted on standing below GCE A-level / IB qualification (e.g. qualifications obtained outside Hong Kong for admission to 4-year undergraduate programmes of an overseas university) will normally be required to complete 123 units of courses (normative period of study is 4 years) in order to graduate. There are yet some other programme that are offered as a standard four-year or five-year programme. Some programmes may have additional admission requirements. Please refer to the website(s) of the respective programme(s) to which you wish to apply for admission for updates on the programme requirements.

All applications will be considered on a competitive basis. Possession of qualifications that satisfied the University minimum entrance requirements does not necessarily guarantee admission to the University.

Applications with qualifications not listed above will be considered on their own merits by the programmes concerned.

For applicants currently undertaking undergraduate studies in UGC-funded institutions and seeking transfer admissions

According to the guidelines of the University Grants Committee (UGC), unless under exceptional circumstances, applicants who may have to repeat a year of study on transfer across institutions should generally be given a lower priority in admissions.
